Integrating Reading, Writing, and Thinking
2002 Central Region Spring Meeting

9 AM to 1 PM, March 1, 2002
103 Van Dusen Hall
Sandhills Community College
3395 Airport Road, Pinehurst, NC

Are you interested in learning how to engage your students? Would you like to learn how to integrate reading, writing, thinking, and group presentations into your courses? The CEI 2002 Central Region Spring Meeting will teach you how. Jenna Call, Samantha Fey, and Jill Lahnstein — English instructors at Cape Fear Community College — will present "Jumping In: Reading, Writing, and Thinking in ENG 095." Even if you do not teach ENG 095, you will learn many effective techniques for integrating reading, writing, speaking, and collaborative learning in other writing and literature courses. Marilyn Freeman, English Department chair at Cape Fear, will also be available to answer questions about administering this approach to developmental education.

The meeting will be offered from 9 a.m. until noon, with lunch afterwords. The registration fee is $10.00, which includes lunch. After lunch you are invited to tour the extensive Sandhills Horticultural Gardens.

Recognizing that students are often under prepared for college-level reading and writing, Cape Fear has designed classroom instruction to "facilitate the students' exposure by providing a creative, constructive, and nonthreatening environment in which students forge a new understanding of written texts." You will learn how Cape Fear's approach can work for your students.

The meeting has limited space, so register below today. Be sure to click the "Submit" button after you complete each item.
