CEI Fall Conference 2003

Call for Presentations

CEI invites you to make a presentation at the CEI Fall Conference 2003, October 26-28, 2003, at the Broyhill Inn & Conference Center in Boone, NC. The theme of the conference is "Expanding Our Boundaries." The Common Course Library and our local service area are two such boundaries. Innovative teachers and programs are expanding the three-sentence course description, and distance learning courses are providing students with challenges and opportunities beyond the traditional boundaries. The conference will explore ways that individual instructors, courses, and colleges are serving students in our field. Suggested session topics would include but are not limited to the following individual or group presentations:

  • Designing assignments with learning styles in mind.
  • Using small groups effectively in literature and humanities classes.
  • Using peer-editing groups effectively to enhance writing.
  • Helping ESL students to become better writers of English.
  • Using the Web in classroom courses.
  • Designing innovative assignments in ENG 111, 112, 113, and 114.
  • Making sure that ENG 114 prepares students for work or transfer.
  • Making sure and that our college transfer students are prepared to succeed when they transfer.
  • Using a college's foundation (that collects charitable donations) to fund activities to enhance courses or department activities.
  • Preparing instructional videos for Distance Learning sections of ENG 111 (or other courses).
  • Using photography as a tool for seeing and revision in ENG 111.
  • Developing distance learning orientation courses or materials (especially those delivered by CD or the Web).
