Saving a Test in Blackboard

  1. If your instructor has asked you to take a test on material covered in a learning module, the instructor may also give you two options:

    • Option 1: Save and Continue: The "Save and Continue" option enables you to to save your test and complete it after a few moments or after a longer period of time.

    • Option 2: Save and Submit: The "Save and Submit" option means that you save your work and submit it for grading. You will not be able to return and work on your test after this point unless your instructor has also informed you that you can take the test multiple times.

While you are in the process of taking a test , you can scroll to the bottom of the screen and click the "Save" button as shown in the image below. A note will appear below the save button as you move your pointer (which becomes a small hand) over the "Save" button. That note indicates that you will be able to continue the test after saving. This option is useful if your dial-up connection times out frequently. The "save and continue" feature will allow you to save your test and continue the next day or after a period of several days or as long as your instructor makes the test available.

  2. As soon as you click the "Save" button, the test will appear on the screen at the point where you were working. The test will preserve your answer choices, as shown in the image below. At this point, if you exit from your course and then return to the test within the time period given, you can open the test to see that your answers to this point have been recorded on screen. Note the first answer choice is still selected:

  3. After you complete the test, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click the "Save" button one more time. Then click the "Submit" button. Completing both actions saves all your answers and then submits the test to the Blackboard system to be graded. Remember: You will not be able to return and work on your test after you submit it for a grade unless your instructor has also informed you that you can take the test multiple times. If that is the case, at the bottom of the quiz instructions you will also see the message "Multiple Attempts: This test allows multiple attempts." In the example, below, however, "multiple attempts" are not permitted:
