The mission of the North Carolina Conference of English Instructors since its beginning in 1972
has been to encourage and support effective teaching in writing, the humanities, and speech;
promote and provide opportunities for professional development; and advocate and recommend policies for professional issues.

Any current member of CEI may nominate an individual for this award. Nominee must be a member in good standing. The nominee need not have served on the CEI Board of Directors.
